Allegion acquires Tennessee-based Republic Doors & Frames

Allegion Plc, which makes locks, steel doors and other security products, has acquired Tennessee-based Republic Doors & Frames Inc.

Financial terms of the deal, announced Tuesday, were not disclosed.

Allegion is based in Dublin, Ireland, but its Americas region headquarters is in Carmel. The company was spun off from Ingersoll Rand in 2013 and has manufacturing and R&D facilities in Indianapolis that are operated by Schlage Lock Co. LLC and Von Duprin LLC.

Republic makes hollow metal doors and frames.

“By adding Republic Doors & Frames to the Allegion family, we’re expanding our product offering, improving our operating efficiency and growing our distribution footprint,” Tim Eckersley, Allegion senior vice president and president of the Americas, said in written statement. “This will not only drive growth for us in the U.S., but will enhance the overall customer experience in this sector that’s core to our business.”

Republic President Mike Taylor “will remain in a consulting capacity and focus on a smooth integration” while other members of Republic’s management team will join Allegion’s staff, Allegion said.

Republic, based in McKenzie, Tennessee, had sales of about $20 million in 2015. The company operates five regional service centers in Atlanta, Dallas, Orlando, Houston and Seattle.

Allegion has more than 9,400 employees worldwide, including about 1,200 in Indiana, and annual sales of $2 billion.

An Allegion spokesperson said Republic would continue to operate from its existing manufacturing and distribution locations.

“No immediate changes are planned,” the company said in an emailed statement. “However, the business will become part of the Americas doors and frames business, which is managed by the Americas regional office based in Carmel.”
