Inventor PlugIn for Geometry Comparison and Tolerance Influence Visualization

Thursday, September 29th, 2016

CAD Software Solutions released the PartCompare and ToleranceVisualize AddIn for Autodesk Inventor 2015, 2016 and 2017. The AddIn uses the LEDAS LGC technology and is the only solution to compare Solid-, Surface- and combined Solid/Surface geometries, which makes it absolutely unique. The Addins GUI provides a overview of differences in Volume, Mass, num. features and Faces, and the comparison result is graphically displayed within the Inventor graphics window of both compared models. The User is free to select the preferred display colors for both models and the original geometry can be switched on or off.

Pic_01The AddIn registers automatically if the source models are designed in metric or inch units. And even both is possible: to compare metric and inch models whereby the User is free to define in which tolerance units the calculation shell be done. And this is another unique feature: the Geometry comparison taking into account a tolerance.

The use of tolerances within a 3D geometry is a great design feature but can lead quickly in undesirable side effects. With thisPic_03feature the Designer keeps control over the model and its tolerance influence to the entire geometry. At the same time it grants a easy and quick overview to all assigned tolerances and displays graphically the locations of tolerances and where they might still are missing.

Both, the PartCompare and ToleranceVisualize AddIn, are highly efficient and useful tools for any designer. The Geometry Comparison and ToleranceVisualization are included in one single AddIn. For the start to market CAD Software Solution grants special offers until the end of the year, especially for company licenses. Get now your free of charge evaluation license here:

Cetrus™ Releases Expense-2-Project for Application Use Reimbursement

Thursday, September 15th, 2016

Solution lets companies convert software cost from expense to revenue

September 15, 2016 (San Ramon, CA) – Cetrus, the leader in real-time desktop application use monitoring and reporting, announced today that Process Meter V3.1 and Expense-2-Project (E2P) for application use reimbursement are immediately available. Process Meter monitors desktop application license activity in real-time for license cost reduction and use optimization, and now supports virtualized environments including Citrix™ and VMware™. E2P extends Process Meter to let users associate active application use time to projects, enabling project-based organizations to shift software costs from an overhead expense to reimbursable revenue. E2P supports associating individual application window sessions to projects, as well as shared/single sign-in applications.

E2P lets users associate a window at the beginning or end of the session and requires no additional data entry. Pop-up association screens pre-cache data fields for the last 10 unique projects to minimize data lookup time and improve data entry quality. Application use monitoring can occur both on- and off-line.

Administrators configure application-specific hourly use rates, up to eight data entry fields and Inactive/Idle buffer times. Inactive time lets firms continue billing for use while users temporarily stop interacting with an open window to gather project-related information. If the Inactive time has been exceeded, use time billing is halted, and restarts when the user becomes active in the window.

Pre-built summary and detail reports provide consolidated billing information for multiple users, applications and projects. Reports are available as PDFs for viewing, and CSV format for easy import into billing applications.

“E2P is a great revenue generator,” says Uri Eliahu, President of ENGEO, an engineering firm of more than 250 professionals. “We can now get reimbursed for our use of all desktop engineering and shared workstation applications. The ability to associate individual windows to different projects lets engineers simultaneously work on multiple projects from one license. There is no change to how our engineers work and no impact on productivity.”

About Cetrus
Cetrus is the leader in real-time, application-use monitoring for software asset optimization. Headquartered in San Ramon, CA, the firm provides solutions that monitor real-time desktop applications. Enterprises can implement Process Meter, its next generation license independent platform, to understand when and how applications are used for license cost reduction, application use comparison, and use reimbursement. Autodesk Introduces Portfolio for the Future of Manufacturing

Tuesday, September 13th, 2016

At IMTS 2016, Company Brings Together Autodesk, Delcam, HSM, Netfabb, Pan Computing and Magestic Systems for Complete Set of Additive and Subtractive Manufacturing Solutions

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–With the world of manufacturing undergoing major disruptions brought on by new market forces and technologies, Autodesk (NASDAQ:ADSK) unveiled its portfolio of solutions for additive and subtractive manufacturing. The portfolio lets manufacturers take advantage of technology disruptions and improve competitiveness by creating higher quality products in less time with lower costs.

“This new integrated portfolio from Autodesk brings together technology Autodesk has been growing and investing in across the full manufacturing spectrum”

The new solution brings together industry-leading products historically offered from Autodesk, Delcam, Netfabb, Pan Computing and Magestic Systems—including HSMWorks, Inventor HSM, Fusion 360, FeatureCAM, PowerMill, PartMaker (now included in FeatureCAM), PowerShape, PowerInspect and Netfabb—into one complete set of hybrid manufacturing solutions.

“Autodesk has long been a leader and innovator in 3D design, engineering and the technologies that expand the applications of industrial 3D printing, but we appreciate that no product is really complete until it’s realized through physical manufacture,” said Amar Hanspal, senior vice president of products at Autodesk. “We’ve also become a leader in technologies that expand the applications of industrial 3D printing. Now, we’re truly integrating the design, make and use phases of product development. This new set of solutions goes big on the ‘make’ component—equipping manufacturers with all the software they need to go from digital design to real-world product.”

Unveiled at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS 2016), the portfolio spans computer aided manufacturing (CAM), additive manufacturing, composites, robotics fabrication, factory layout, inspection and modeling. It enables customers to solve complex manufacturing challenges and seamlessly connect design to machining.

Within the portfolio offerings are cloud-connected capabilities designed to help users experience the benefits of a more cohesive manufacturing workflow and invest more time in product development. Cloud-capabilities give customers improved support for global manufacturing operations with universal access to software and data, and the cloud also enables fast and frequent software upgrades.

What’s in the Autodesk manufacturing portfolio?

  • Autodesk HSMWorks: A fully integrated CAM solution for SOLIDWORKS, allowing users to get up to speed and become productive within minutes using familiar tools and workflows.
  • Autodesk Inventor HSM: Helps CNC programmers, designers and engineers rapidly produce machined parts designed in virtually any CAD system.
  • Autodesk 2017 CAM Products: With offerings for a multitude of advanced manufacturing applications, these new products combine the heritage of industry leadership in CAM software from Delcam with Autodesk’s 3D design and manufacturing prowess. Solutions include FeatureCAM for automating CNC programming; PartMaker for precision part manufacturing with Swiss-type lathes; PowerMill for programming the most complex molds, dies and other components; PowerShape for preparing complex models for manufacture; and PowerInspect for inspection in every environment.
  • Autodesk Netfabb: All the software you need to reduce costs, increase efficiency and improve part performance in additive manufacturing and 3D printing.
  • Fusion 360: The centerpiece of Autodesk’s cloud-based product innovation platform, Fusion 360 combines CAD, CAM and CAE in a single package. It allows users to take their designs all the way to production with included 3D printing capabilities as well as HSM powered toolpath technology for 2 through 5 axis milling machines, turning centers and waterjets.

“Not only is the Netfabb bundle easy to use, it also does much of the heavy lifting in preparing models for 3D printing,” said Dan Ko, strategic initiatives lead at Shapeways. “The software streamlines the process of fixing common 3D print file problems and if we didn’t have it to automate a large portion of file preparation process, each build would be substantially more time consuming and labor intensive.”

“This new integrated portfolio from Autodesk brings together technology Autodesk has been growing and investing in across the full manufacturing spectrum,” said Hanspal. “This combination of solutions makes modular and scalable manufacturing solutions available to manufacturers of all sizes.”

To learn more about these solutions and speak with Autodesk executives and product experts, please visit the Autodesk IMTS booth #E-3222.

NEW YORK & LONDON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Drawing on exclusive data spanning five years, and covering 149 companies, 16 industries and 4.6 million users, the Software Usage and Waste Report 2016 provides unique insight into the enterprise desktop. The report defines waste as a piece of software that has been deployed to a desktop but not used.

Global enterprise software waste today stands at 38%, totaling $28 billion of waste in the US alone.

“There is huge evidence of software waste across all sectors,” says Buffi Neal, co-author of the report. “The inability of organizations to reduce average waste levels suggests that they remain unaware of the underlying cost-saving opportunities.”

The report found that, of the 35 leading applications examined, the following were most prone to waste: 1. TechSmith Camtasia Studio (waste: 67%) 2. SAP Crystal Reports (63%) 3. Adobe InDesign (55%) 3. Adobe Dreamweaver (55%) 5. Microsoft Visio (47%) 5. Adobe Illustrator (47%) 7. Microsoft Project Professional (46%) 8. Adobe Photoshop (42%) 9. Helios TextPad (40%) 10. Corel WinZip (34%).

The report also shines a light on what those applications with very high deployment and waste levels cost businesses. For example, Project Professional alone is calculated to be costing the average business of 30,000 machines $381,840.

The Software Usage and Waste Report also analyzes software efficiency by industry. Of the 16 global industries defined, government (28%) boasts the lowest waste, while aviation (47%) and education (47%) have the highest.

“All industries have a need for specialized software,” comments report co-author Peter Beruk. “An accounting firm will have the need for accounting software, while an engineering firm will have a greater need for CAD software. The Software Usage and Waste Report will allow the SAM manager to recognize those applications most unused within their business immediately and develop a remediation plan.”

The 1E Software Usage and Waste Report coincides with the release of 1E’s new Software Intelligence tool, which offers businesses a free snapshot of their own application usage.

Founded in 1997, 1E’s mission is simple: enable our customers to automate the software lifecycle. 1E’s Software Asset Management solution and AppClarity product are part of the Software Lifecycle Automation suite.
