Inventor PlugIn for Geometry Comparison and Tolerance Influence Visualization

CAD Software Solutions released the PartCompare and ToleranceVisualize AddIn for Autodesk Inventor 2015, 2016 and 2017. The AddIn uses the LEDAS LGC technology and is the only solution to compare Solid-, Surface- and combined Solid/Surface geometries, which makes it absolutely unique. The Addins GUI provides a overview of differences in Volume, Mass, num. features and Faces, and the comparison result is graphically displayed within the Inventor graphics window of both compared models. The User is free to select the preferred display colors for both models and the original geometry can be switched on or off.

Cetrus™ Releases Expense-2-Project for Application Use Reimbursement

Solution lets companies convert software cost from expense to revenue

September 15, 2016 (San Ramon, CA) – Cetrus, the leader in real-time desktop application use monitoring and reporting, announced today that Process Meter V3.1 and Expense-2-Project (E2P) for application use reimbursement are immediately available. Process Meter monitors desktop application license activity in real-time for license cost reduction and use optimization, and now supports virtualized environments including Citrix™ and VMware™. E2P extends Process Meter to let users associate active application use time to projects, enabling project-based organizations to shift software costs from an overhead expense to reimbursable revenue. E2P supports associating individual application window sessions to projects, as well as shared/single sign-in applications.

E2P lets users associate a window at the beginning or end of the session and requires no additional data entry. Pop-up association screens pre-cache data fields for the last 10 unique projects to minimize data lookup time and improve data entry quality. Application use monitoring can occur both on- and off-line.

Administrators configure application-specific hourly use rates, up to eight data entry fields and Inactive/Idle buffer times. Inactive time lets firms continue billing for use while users temporarily stop interacting with an open window to gather project-related information. If the Inactive time has been exceeded, use time billing is halted, and restarts when the user becomes active in the window.

Pre-built summary and detail reports provide consolidated billing information for multiple users, applications and projects. Reports are available as PDFs for viewing, and CSV format for easy import into billing applications.

Study: US Enterprise Software Waste Hits $28 Billion

NEW YORK & LONDON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Drawing on exclusive data spanning five years, and covering 149 companies, 16 industries and 4.6 million users, the Software Usage and Waste Report 2016 provides unique insight into the enterprise desktop. The report defines waste as a piece of software that has been deployed to a desktop but not used.

Global enterprise software waste today stands at 38%, totaling $28 billion of waste in the US alone.

“There is huge evidence of software waste across all sectors,” says Buffi Neal, co-author of the report. “The inability of organizations to reduce average waste levels suggests that they remain unaware of the underlying cost-saving opportunities.”

The report found that, of the 35 leading applications examined, the following were most prone to waste: 1. TechSmith Camtasia Studio (waste: 67%) 2. SAP Crystal Reports (63%) 3. Adobe InDesign (55%) 3. Adobe Dreamweaver (55%) 5. Microsoft Visio (47%) 5. Adobe Illustrator (47%) 7. Microsoft Project Professional (46%) 8. Adobe Photoshop (42%) 9. Helios TextPad (40%) 10. Corel WinZip (34%).

The report also shines a light on what those applications with very high deployment and waste levels cost businesses. For example, Project Professional alone is calculated to be costing the average business of 30,000 machines $381,840.

The Software Usage and Waste Report also analyzes software efficiency by industry. Of the 16 global industries defined, government (28%) boasts the lowest waste, while aviation (47%) and education (47%) have the highest.

“All industries have a need for specialized software,” comments report co-author Peter Beruk. “An accounting firm will have the need for accounting software, while an engineering firm will have a greater need for CAD software. The Software Usage and Waste Report will allow the SAM manager to recognize those applications most unused within their business immediately and develop a remediation plan.”

The 1E Software Usage and Waste Report coincides with the release of 1E’s new Software Intelligence tool, which offers businesses a free snapshot of their own application usage.

3D Systems Geomagic Control X enables precise, rapid, digital inspection for results-driven quality management and metrology workflows. This new and intuitive software delivers comprehensive and innovative toolsets for the professional metrology process. Geomagic Control X also includes traceable, accurate and customizable reporting and analysis tools to quickly assure and document quality measures.

  • Repeatable Probing Processes with LiveInspect™: Build repeatability and reliability into your inspection processes with LiveInspect. Geomagic Control X allows you to pre-plan your inspection processes and reporting for portable CMMs, and execute them at a later date, again and again. Engineers can effortlessly switch between probing and scanning with a click of a button.

Geomagic Control X supports all industry-standard non-contact and optical scanners, and a wide range of portable probing and tactile devices. This software imports all major CAD file formats, including CATIA®, NX®, Creo®, Pro/ENGINEER®, SOLIDWORKS®, Solid Edge®, Autodesk Inventor® and more, in addition to PMI and GD&T data. All CAD importers are delivered at no additional cost.
